Further Investigations - Another Procedure for Measuring Androgyny

The BSRI (Bem Sex Role Inventory)

We wanted to further confirm and test the scale of Androgyny in the respondents A-F that were used in our 'Findings' . To do this we decided to carry out the BSRI (Bem Sex Role Inventory).

This is a test composed of 60 Questions. See the table below.

Rating Scale Used

1: This is just not me in any way shape or form.
2: I might be described in this way once in a while, but rarely.
3: It is not unusual for me to be like this, but it isn't normal.
4: I would say that for 50% of the time I am like this, and for 50% of the time I am not.
5: On balance I lean in this direction.
6: Most of the time I am like this, but there are occasional exceptions.
7: This word describes me perfectly

Overall findings

The BSRI confirms my original hypothesis in 4/6 cases (67%), suggesting that settlers to the West Midlands did adapt to their new situation through a re-writing of gender schemas.
