‘Home’ is set
in what Edgar describes as a “meeting place.” The
story begins when Cora, sitting amidst the audience, asks
the other characters, “Where are you from?” Each
character tells his or her own story about leaving home
and making a new one in England.
As a composite of the stories collected through Edgar’s
research, each character reflects the writer’s careful
negotiation of his responsibility to represent his sources
in a true and honest way with his duty to create an exciting,
useful and engaging piece of educational theatre.
