Bringing ‘Home’ to the Stage

Bringing ‘Home’ to the stage was a collaborative effort between scriptwriter John Edgar, director Michael O’Hara, set-designer Alison Clark and the actors enlisted to portray Neville, Alice, Anna, Kamaljeet and Cora.

Inspired by the BE-ME archive and the rich stories it contains, Gazebo TIE commissioned John Edgar to write the script for an educational theatre piece based on the archive. Edgar’s script fused the stories and experiences collected from the BE-ME website and other on-line archives and from personal interviews with members of the local community. Director Michael O’Hara worked with set designer Alison Clark to create the perfect set for ‘Home,’ and the cast developed their characters through a series of improvisational workshops. Educational packs based all aspects of the production were compiled for use by teachers in and out of the classroom. ‘Home’ was ready to hit the road.
