The official launch of the BE-ME (Black & Ethnic Minority
Experience) project took place November 23, 1999 at Light
House, Wolverhampton. The event attracted over 250 people,
informing them of the project’s existence and it’s
aims.
The evening was introduced by Ava Ming, BBC Radio WM; guest
speakers included Vice Chancellor Professor John Brooks, (University
of Wolverhampton), Vice Principal Cliff Hall, (Wolverhampton
College), and Roy Lockwood (Director of Education) –
all three institutions are vehemently backing the initiative.
The evening was also celebrating African-Caribbean and Asian
culture through food, drink and the arts. People were in attendance
from across the borough and all sectors of the community.
