Important and timely debate to be held at Light House, Wolverhampton during
Black History Month
The BE - ME (Black and Ethnic Minority Experience) Foundation
would like to invite you to participate in a debate,
at Light House Media Centre Wolverhampton on Wednesday
19 October at 6.30pm, around Trevor Phillips' (Chair
of the Commission for Racial Equality, CRE) proposal
that black boys should be educated separately from other
pupils within the school system.
Guest speaker George Mighty is
a former educational advisor for Derby Educational Authority
and Educational Officer for the African - Caribbean Teachers
Association in Birmingham. He is currently a magistrate
for Derby and Chairman of the Derby West Indian Community
Association. He will open the debate which centres around
Trevor Phillip’s new ideas for schooling African-Caribbean
boys, including some separate lessons for some black boys.
The chairwoman of Black Boys Can, Cheron Byfield has supported
this notion, "There is now a groundswell desire for innovation, leadership, partnership and
success in educating, parenting and supporting black boys.”

very important debate on Wednesday 19 October at 6.30pm.

will be forwarded onto the CRE. Cost: Free.

Black History Month with a number of exciting events throughout
October. On Friday 7 October at 7pm CTHEM Black Writers
present A Celebration of Live Black Heroes with entertainment
and guest speakers and on Thursday 20 October Light House’s
Screen Forum will showcase Black Filmmakers in the region.
